The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25k award cash to the trust for venues, which operates to save the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on mid-October as his third album the album was named the best record of the past year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function small stages had in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the shows I did around the region, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists including Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation supported spaces that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties arising from floods, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted funding support in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that helped artists and audiences.

"The concept that money from performances in major spaces helps the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his Mercury Prize funds to charitable organizations.

When they received the prize in the year 1996 for their release their work, lead singer the singer stated that the group would donate their cash to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, artist she divided her bounty between several organizations, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also gave a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite told the media.

Two years ago, they contributed their winnings to the local youth club that developed their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners the group gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the disease.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," remarked vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory affected the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had rescued several small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in that area and The Croft in that location were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
