President Trump Welcomes Relatives of Attacked Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the executive mansion.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump informed reporters. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Community members gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist policing efforts in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to help others.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor the governor stated on television.
Attorney general the attorney general told the program that she planned to visit his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
