Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
