Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:
- Every squad has just eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
